Insurers Embrace Better Insights through the Science of Where

| Return|

Esri Eastern Africa and the Insurance Information Bureau (IIB) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU which was penned on 12th September 2018 binds the two organizations to sharing knowledge and expertise pertaining to GIS knowledge and collaboration on projects aimed at growing and developing the insurance industry in the technology disruptive era using the Geographic Information Systems (GIS), also known as the Science of Where.

Insurance has a strong geographic component. The insurance industry has been plagued by fraud with increased claims and losses. GIS brings to the fingertips of insurers spatial data effectively and in real-time, to improve decision-making more efficiently.

The partnership will ensure insurers are offering the right products and services to fit their customers’ needs by making use of GIS to establish customer location, proximity to hazards, variable premiums through location intelligence.

The MoU will be operational for a period of five years.

The signing ceremony was done at the Esri Eastern Africa Offices by the Managing Director, Esri Eastern Africa Mr. Judah arap Bett and Chief Executive Officer, Insurance Information Bureau (IIB) Mr. Isaac Ng’aru.

Also present from at the signing were Mr.  Clifford Okembo Senior Manager: Technical at Esri Eastern Africa, and Mr. George Muiruri, Chief Operating Officer and Mr. Richard Oyare Vice- Chairman also from IIB.
