GIS for Humanitarian Assistance

The 3-day course focus on integrating GIS with Monitoring and Evaluation in project management, thus improving the effectiveness and communications of results to management, funding partners, and beneficiaries. GIS is fundamental in creation and use of maps and charts to help reveal relationships, patterns, and trends for project indicators in a way that is quickly understood by program managers and easy to share.

Course objectives
  • Understand key concepts in M&E and GIS
  • Learn how to develop an M&E-GIS System
  • Learn how to integrate existing M&E data with GIS
  • Learn how to collect data using mobile phones
  • Learn how to analyze and visualize M&E data
Who Should Attend
The course is designed for representatives from government, project teams, NGOs, multi and bilateral development organizations, consultancies, project managers and directors, M&E specialists, technical specialists, and researchers

Arc Hydro: GIS for Water Resources

Water resource managers use GIS technology to visualize and analyze hydrologic data for tasks such as assessing water quality, estimating water availability, planning ¬ flood prevention, understanding the natural environment, delineating watershed and managing water resources. This 3-day course explores the Arc Hydro data model and tools using a series of real-world examples. You will learn the basic principles of the Arc Hydro data model, how to extend it, and about the Arc Hydro tools that help you efficiently manage and use the data model and perform water resource analyses.

Course Objectives
The participants will be able to:
  • Apply the Arc Hydro data model in organizing and managing hydrology data, and configuring the data to be exported to hydrologic models
  • Combine Arc Hydro data structure and tools to solve realistic water resource problems
  • Perform watershed modeling and analyses.
  • Use Arc Hydro tools to delineate and characterize watersheds in raster and vector formats, by using Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) and standardized datasets such as land cover, soil properties, gauging station locations, and climate variables
  • Use the Arc Hydro tools in describing hydrologic characteristics, and defining and analyzing hydro geometric networks
Who Should Attend
Engineers, hydrologists, regulatory personnel and GIS professionals involved in water resource management.
